ECP ordered to issue schedule of Islamabad LB polls on Friday

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Supreme Court ordered Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to issue a schedule of Islamabad local body (LB) elections on Friday. Chief Justice said that if local government is not present then bribe has to be given even to verify a form, reported Dunya News on Thursday.

Additional Attorney General told the court at the hearing of Islamabad LB elections case that notification of the rules for the upcoming LB poll has been issued. ECP told the court that the schedule for the said polls would be issued on Friday. Chief Justice remarked that ECP cannot ignore the constitution adding that no Justice from the Supreme Court intends to contest in the upcoming election.

The court further added that without local governments people are left powerless, a scenario which is unthinkable. The hearing of the case has been postponed indefinitely.
