SC extends illegal hoardings' deadline by four weeks, rejects reports

KARACHI (Dunya News) – The Supreme Court (SC) Karachi Registry on Wednesday has rejected reports filed by different departments in illegal billboards  case and granted another four weeks to comply with the orders.

The SC said that any department failing to comply with the orders by the extended deadline would face contempt of court charges.

Faisal Cantonment Board filed report in the SC regarding illegal billboards in the area. The report states that there are as many as 93 illegal hoardings in the cantonment. The boards are erected in areas occupied by Civil Aviation, Station Headquarters (HQ), Railways, Pakistan Navy and Pakistan Air Force (PAF).

Civil Aviation’s land has the most number of illegal hoardings amounting to 33. Navy has 31, Station HQ, 26, PAF has two while Railways has one.

The report states that at least 14 illegal billboards have been taken down in Karsaz area after the orders. As many as ten hoardings from Rashid Minhas Road and Askari area have also been removed.

Earlier, the SC had ordered the authorities to take down illegal hoardings by August 26.
