Summary Mushahidullah Khan will meet Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif in Islamabad today.

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Two days after resigning from the post of Federal Minister for Climate Change, Mushahidullah Khan will give explanation to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif over his controversial interview today (Monday).

According to sources, the federal minister has prepared a strategy for his defence and he is likely to apprise the premier that other federal ministers including Khawaja Asif, Saad Rafique and Javed Hashmi have also given this kind statement in the past.

Sources further told that Mushahidullah is of the view that he has just talked about a prominent personality and did not target any institution.

On Saturday, Senator Mushahidullah Khan resigned from the post of Federal Minister for Climate Change a day after BBC Urdu published his interview in which he alleged that former Inter Services Intelligence (ISI) chief Lt. Gen Zaheerul Islam Abbasi had tried to stage a coup during last year’s sit-ins by the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf and the Pakistan Awami Tehreek.

Mushahidullah had alleged that the intelligence agency Intelligence Bureau (IB) recorded some of the audio tapes of General Zaheerul Islam’s conversations in which he was directing some people how to spread chaos during the PTI sit-ins and then occupy the Prime Minister House.

He further said that the Prime Minister played those audio tapes before the Army Chief on the eve of August 28, 2014.

The Prime Minister’s spokesperson rebutted Mushahidullah’s claim and said no one had listened to any such tape nor was such tape presented to anyone.

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had sought explanation from the minister over his controversial remarks.

According to sources, MNA Maryam Aurangzeb is expected to replace Mushahidullah Khan as Federal Minister for Climate Change if the PM approved his resignation.
