Summary Manzoor Wattoo says the withdrawal of motions is a healthy sign for parliament and democracy
LAHORE: (Daily Dunya) – Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Punjab President Manzoor Ahmed Wattoo has on Thursday welcomed the withdrawal of the de-seating motions against Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) members. He said that this decision will strengthen the democracy and parliament, reported Daily Dunya.
In a statement, Manzoor Wattoo said that PPP was never in favor of de-seating PTI members. He said that PPP was trying to bring the other parties on its side as well. “Jamiat Ulema Islam – Fazl (JUI-F) leader Maulana Fazlur Rehman also confirmed during his speech in the National Assembly that Co-Chairman PPP Asif Ali Zardari phoned him to convince him to withdraw the motions against PTI”, he added. He said, “PPP has always sided with democracy and party’s history proves this fact”, he said.
Wattoo said that PPP thinks Pakistan can only progress under democracy and the devastation former military rules have brought to the country are a proof to this. He said that PPP accepted 2013 election results for democracy and its sustenance and it does not want to create any serious problems for the country by cultivating a crisis.
PPP leader said that democracy would have suffered if PPP had joined the protesting parties but the party does not want to do politics by putting democracy in trouble so decided against protesting. He said that PPP workers and leaders have given their blood for democracy in Pakistan and they would thwart any attempts to undermine the same in the country. He said that PPP will always support whatever steps are taken for strengthening of democracy.
