Summary Political leaders held a meeting at Speaker's Chamber in Islamabad on Tuesday.

ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) – A meeting of political leaders took place at Speaker’s Chamber today (Tuesday) where NA Speaker Sardar Ayaz Sadiq and Opposition Leader Khurshid Shah tried to convince MQM and JUI-F leaders to withdraw their motions seeking de-seating of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) lawmakers, Dunya News reported.

Shah Mehmood Qureshi, Fazlur Rehman and Rasheed Godial were also present in the meeting.

JUI-F Chief Maulana Fazalur Rehman said the motions should be deferred for a few days to complete the consultation within the party and with other political parties. He said if the government and other political parties convinced us for withdrawal then we will withdraw the motion.

He said they want supremacy of the constitution and continuation of political system.

MQM leader Farooq Sattar said strengthening of democracy is not possible without abiding by the Constitution. He said a request should come from PTI for condoning their absence for forty days.

Talking to media after the meeting, PTI Vice Chairman Shah Mehmood Qureshi said that his party has not taken any decision on the motions but decision will be made according to the House’s atmosphere if political parties conducted voting on the matter.

Finance Minister Ishaq Dar has already stated that the ruling Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) would oppose motions to de-seat members of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI).

Speaking in the National Assembly, Finance Minister Ishaq Dar said PML-N would vote against motion.

He appealed to JUI-F and MQM to withdraw their motions as per request by Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif.

Arif Alvi, Ijaz Jakhrani, Dr G.G. Jamal and Sher Akbar Khan appreciated the government stance on the issue of de-seating.
