Summary He slammed NDS' claim that Mullah Omar was present in Karachi

(Web Desk) – Dunya News Chief National Security Correspondent Wajahat Saeed Khan on Wednesday slammed Afghan intelligence agency s claim that Taliban leader Mullah Omar died while receiving treatment at a hospital in Karachi.

Responding to the vile allegation by the Afghan agency, he said that spreading rumors of death of Mullah Omar s presence in Karachi is merely a ploy by Afghan intelligence agency National Directorate Security (NDS) and other elements that do not want peace in the security to destabilize the peace process, said Khan on Wednesday.

Wajahat Khan said that Afghan intelligence agencies had spread rumors in the early hours of Wednesday that Mullah Omar had been killed. However the Afghan government, he said, headed by Ashraf Ghani refused to comment on the matter saying that it neither confirms nor denies any such statement and its focus will be on the upcoming peace talks.

Khan said that the American government also said that it was unsure of the killing of the Afghan Taliban leader. The statement was backed from different sources as Pakistan echoed the same regarding the death of Mullah Omar. Later in the evening Afghan Taliban also denied that their leader had been slain.

Wajahat Khan said that there remained friction between the NDS and the Presidential Palace in Kabul regarding different issues. He said that negotiations being staged between Pakistan and Afghanistan early in the year were also opposed by the NDS despite being hailed as a good step by the Afghan government.

He said that peace was the objective of all stake holders including America, Pakistan, Afghan Presidency and China. The trouble with peace in the region, he said, is that power that does not want peace and stability in the region referring to India.
