Summary Over-speeding and not using the emergency brakes on time caused the accident, says report
LAHORE: (Dunya News) – Report of the Gujranwala train accident has on Friday been prepared by the 7-member Joint Investigation Team (JIT) and the report will be presented to Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif soon. Report says that over-speeding and not using the emergency brakes on time caused the accident, reported Dunya News.
The 7-member JIT, comprising of 4 Railways and 3 military officers, held the train driver, assistant driver and the point-man directly responsible for the accident. After investigating all the aspects, the JIT concluded that over-speeding was the main reason behind the accident.
The report says that the train should have crossed the bridge at a speed of 30 kilometers per hour maximum but at the time of accident, it was traveling above 62 kph. Moreover, the driver also failed to apply the emergency brakes.
It directly held the driver Riaz Ahmad, Assistant driver Fayyaz and Point-man Shahid Mahmood responsible for the accident and Assistant Station Superintendent Muhammad Rehan, Loco Foreman Muhammad Hanif, Chief Controller Lahore Zahid Saeed, Deputy Chief Controller Zafar Siddique, Deputy Chief Controller Lala Rukh and Section Controller Awais as indirectly responsible for the accident.
The report recommended action against all those held responsible under the E and rules.
