LAHORE: (Dunya News) – Special Eid train on Sunday reached Karachi from Lahore but carried only 7 passengers from Lahore and by the time it reached Khanewal, there were only 2 passengers left in the train, reported Dunya News.

Train was there, staff was ready and attentive, whistle blew and green flag was waved but the second special Eid train from Lahore to Karachi left for its destination with 7 passengers only. Officials claimed that there were no bookings from Lahore but the number of passengers will increase as the train moves ahead but by the time the train reached Khanewal, 5 out of 7 passengers had already left.

When the train arrived with only 2 passengers at Khanewal station, it was a sorry sight for the Railways staff as empty bogies shamed them.

Even the passengers seemed terrified. They said that they had never traveled in an atmosphere like that. One train from Lahore to Karachi costs the Pakistan Railways Rs. 1.5 million and the departments loses hundreds of thousands of rupees due to one empty train.

Railway spokesperson said that low number of passengers on Eid is a routine and the number will increase upon train’s return from Karachi.
