Summary Will shut down all flour mills if sales tax not withdrawn, mill owners tell Food Minister Sindh
KARACHI: (Dunya News) – Flour mill owners have on Thursday rejected the 5% sales tax on wheat bran imposed by the federal government on wheat bran. Owners told Food Minister Sindh Manzoor Wassan that flour mills will be closed down if sales tax does not get withdrawn by July 11, 2015, reported Dunya News.
In a meeting with the Food Minister today in Karachi, Flour Mill owners said that 5% increase in the sales tax on wheat bran will cause an increase of Rs. 15 on each bag of what bran. Food Minister assured the mill owners that their concerns will be addressed.
Manzoor Wassan said that Sindh government has 400,000 metric tons surplus wheat and doesn’t have the space to store it. He requested the flour mill owners for some space to keep this wheat. He assured the mill owners that the federal government will be contacted on the issues of wheat bran and withholding tax.
