Summary Pakistan responded positively to a suggestion by India for a meeting between the two leaders.

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) - Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif will hold a bilateral meeting with his Indian counterpart Narendra Modi on the sidelines of Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) Summit on Friday.

According to an official spokesman, Pakistan has responded positively to a suggestion by India for a meeting between the two leaders. He said the proposed meeting is in the pursuit of the objective of the Prime Minister s policy to have cordial and cooperative ties with all neighboring countries including India.

The spokesman said the Prime Minister will be meeting his Indian counterpart for a comprehensive exchange of views on all issues of common interest.

During the two-day visit, the Prime Minister is expected to meet other world leaders including the Russian President, the Chinese President and the Afghan President.

Nawaz Sharif and Modi had last met in Kathmandu in November at the SAARC Summit where they did not have a bilateral meeting.

Earlier at the beginning of the holy month of Ramazan, the Indian PM telephoned Nawaz Sharif and extended his best wishes while stressing the need for having peaceful and bilateral ties.

The call was seen by many as an attempt to reach out to Pakistan after leaders from both sides exchanged sharp comments after Modi`s critical remarks about Pakistan during his Bangladesh visit and in the wake of India`s military action in Myanmar.
