Summary Justice Nisar remarked that flood committee should have held a meeting much before

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – The Supreme Court (SC) of Pakistan on Thursday has urged the government to gear up to counter any unfortunate incident as the monsoon showers have started.

A three-member bench headed by Justice Saqib Nisar held hearing of the Flood Commission implementation case.

The SC has ordered extension of Federal Flood Commission committee and inclusion of representatives of Indus Water Commission, National Highway Authority (NHA) and Pakistan Railways along with others. The court ordered the commission to file a report of committee’s meeting by July 13.

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s Marvi Memon has been appointed as judicial aide for the matter. Earlier during the hearing, Justice Nisar said that they pray catastrophic events like floods do not cause trouble this year but the government machinery should be ready to tackle any such situation.

Deputy Attorney General said that a flood management committee has been formed. The committee held a meeting on July 8, he added. However, Justice Nisar remarked that the committee should have held a meeting much before.

The hearing of the case was adjourned until unsaid time.
