Summary The JIT is investigating on multiple angles
LAHORE (Dunya News) – The Joint Investigation Team (JIT) comprising Pakistan Army officials and high level railway officials revealed in its fresh findings that speeding by driver may have been a factor in the catastrophic train accident in Gujranwala, Dunya News reported.
In the findings made on 2nd day of investigation, it was revealed that the track of Sangla Hill, Wazirabad Railway Station was not in normal condition. It said that the maximum speed allowed on this track was 30 kilometer per hour but the driver was unaware and was already driving at the speed of 65 kilometers per hour.
The findings said that the speeding of the train was not the only concluding factor that caused the deadly accident, adding that three fishplates were also out of order at the track where the accident took place.
It was also learnt that the bolts and out of order fishplates were attempted to be repaired ahead of investigation in a bid to cover up.
The team said that the US-made engine of the train is 48 years old and was repaired 15 years ago and it is possible that it might have developed a fault. This theory has not been ruled out yet.
