Summary Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif arrived in Karachi on one-day visit.
KARACHI (Web Desk) – Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif today (Wednesday) chaired a high-level meeting on recent intense heat wave in Karachi and the resulting casualties at Chief Minister House in Karachi.
Chief Minister Qaim Ali Shah, Governor Ishratul Ibad, Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar, Minister for Climate Change Mushahidullah Khan, Information Minister Pervaiz Rasheed, Minister of State for Health Saira Afzal Tarar, Chairman NDMA and members of the Sindh Cabinet attended the meeting.
On the occasion, CM Sindh briefed the Prime Minister regarding crisis that hit the metropolis on the 19th of last month, causing hundreds of casualties and the relief and remedial measures taken by the provincial government in its aftermath.
The Prime Minister was informed that more than 65000 heatstroke patients were admitted in Karachi hospitals, out of which about 1250 lost their lives. Most of the victims were aged, drug addicts or homeless people.
Authorities informed that prolonged power outages led to an increase in Karachi heat wave deaths as the K-Electric failed to function up to its capacity.
Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif expressed deep grief and sorrow over the loss of precious lives as a result of intense hot weather.
He said the whole country sympathizes with the affected people in this hour of grief.
Nawaz Sharif said this was an unprecedented in the history of Pakistan and all departments who shirked their responsibilities adding to public misery should be held accountable in a transparent manner.
