Karachi hospitals have treated nearly 80,000 people for the effects of heatstroke and dehydration, according to medical officials.

The heatwave struck Karachi at a time when the city s Muslim majority was observing the dawn-to-dusk fasting month of Ramazan, further worsening the situation. Repeated power outrages across the province, and particularly in Karachi, exacerbated the situation.

Earlier on Monday, Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif cancelled his visit to Karachi due to some official engagements.

According to official sources, the Prime Minister will now visit Karachi on Wednesday.

The premier will review situation arising after heat wave in the city, power crisis, measures regarding reduction in load shedding and law & order situation.
