Summary The ministry issued schedule notification without approval by the Senate and the President
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Islamabad High Court (IHC) on Monday has summoned representatives of Interior Ministry, Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) and Secretary National Assembly (NA) on June 17 in petition challenging local body (LB) polls in the capital.
The petition was filed by as many as four locals against the LB polls in the capital. A two-member bench comprising of Justice Noorul Haq Qureshi and Justice Amir Farooq held hearing of the case. The petition states that the law regarding the LB elections in Islamabad has been passed by the NA and approval from Senate and the President is pending.
The Interior Ministry issued schedule notification of the polls without approval by the Senate and the President.
However, the court instructed the petitioners to limit their issue to the issuance of notification and not challenge clauses of the Constitution as it is too soon for that.
The IHC issued notices to the Secretary NA, Interior Ministry and ECP.
