ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) increased the tariff on electricity by 4 rupees per unit on government’s recommendation on Wednesday. Subsidy on price of electricity unit has also been decreased by 2.25 rupees, reported Dunya News.

The hike in the electricity prices came as a ‘shock’ to people days after government reduced the subsidy on electricity in the budget by more than 1 billion rupees.

The masses have to bear reduction in subsidy as well as increase in surcharge brought by the latest decision.

The government had requested NEPRA that price reduction in electricity tariff and surcharges should be included in schedule.

NEPRA had secured a decision after a hearing on the request of government which has been issued today.

Complying with governments instructions, NEPRA increased the tariff on domestic users by 3 rupees and on industrial consumers by 4 rupees in addition to reducing subsidy on electricity by 2.25 rupees per unit.

NEPRA has issued a declaration and mailed it to Ministry of Water and Power.
