No water treatment plant functional in Karachi, confesses MD Water Board

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Water Board Managing Director (MD) on Tuesday has confessed during environment pollution case hearing in the Supreme Court of Pakistan (SCP) that no treatment plant is functional in Karachi.

During the hearing, Justice Sarmad Jalal Usmani remarked that plazas have taken most of the Malir canal space and there is nowhere for monsoon rain water to pass through. The 300 feet wide Malir canal shrinks to at least two feet in Defense area, he added,

The judge said that Punjab is Pakistan’s part however, it feels different to see development in Lahore.

Senior member of Board of Revenue G N Qureshi said that the Sindh Board of Revenue has allocated at least 300 acres of land for S3 Project. The court ordered the authorities to submit maps of all monsoon drains.

The MD of water Board said that not a single treatment plant in Karachi is functioning.

However, the court postponed the hearing until June 11.
