SHC grants police time until June 12 to file reply in contempt of court case

Summary Defendant's counsel Farooq H Naik filed reply regarding the May 19 incident

KARACHI (Dunya News) – The Sindh High Court (SHC) on Monday has granted time until June 12 to file replies in the Sindh Police Inspector General (IG) and other officials’ contempt of court case.

The hearing of the contempt of court case was held in the SHC today. Defendant’s counsel Farooq H Naik filed reply regarding the May 19 incident. He requested the court to grant more time to submit reply in the case regarding torture of journalists and others by commandos outside the SHC on May 23.

The nest hearing is scheduled for June 12.

Earlier, the court had issued a written order in the case that accused Sindh IG of not speaking the truth and keeping facts from the court. On May 19, security personnel dressed in civil tortured journalists outside the court. The court had said that both the provincial government and the Sindh Police would be tried for contempt charges after the incident.

The Sindh Police had filed an unconditional apology in the SHC after the charges were levied.
