MUZAFFARABAD (Dunya News) – Army has been deployed to maintain law and order situation for Gilgit-Baltistan elections as election date nears, reported Dunya News on Saturday.

Gilgit-Baltistan elections are set to be held on June 8.

Stringent security measures have been put in place for the upcoming elections.

5500 security personnel will be performing duties during the elections which will be held across 24 constituencies in 7 districts.

4200 personnel from police, Rangers and Gilgit-Baltistan Scouts have been called to bolster Army’s security measures.

A command and control center has been established as well which will help in surveillance of law and order situation by the means of 112 cameras.

Governor Gilgit-Baltistan Barjees Tahir has said that people reserve the right to vote for the political party they favour.

Inspector General (IG) police Gilgit-Baltistan said that 4000 security personnel have been deployed to ensure free and fair elections.

Upto 618,364 people will vote in upcoming elections out of which 280,000 will be women while men will be numbered at 338,364.

Polling stations have been established for voters.

Women will use their right to vote for the first time in District Diamir.
