Ju-jitsu: Athletes to defend another title without PSB's support

Summary A pitiful amount of Rs 113,000 was granted to the federation in the last year

LAHORE (Web Desk) – Pakistan’s 30-member squad of Ju-jitsu athletes are ready to defend the title in the South and Central Asian Ju-Jitsu Championship despite the support from the Pakistan Sports Board (PSB).

The PSB and Pakistan Ju-Jitsu Federation (PJJF) have not enjoyed good relations over the past years as one finds appalling episodes of insufficient grants to train the athletes and not providing non-objection certificate (NOC) to the team to participate in an event due to heedlessness.

Pakistani athlete, a gold-medalist, Sundus Salam is also in the squad to defend the title in the 2015 installment of the event. Players from South and Central Asia are said to be able to give tough time to the young athletes. India’s participation will definitely boost the competitive spirit of the team.

If one looks into the matter, it is evident that PJJF’s contribution to the sport has been invaluable as the federation has continued to win titles in international events since 2006 without the support of the PSB.

A pitiful amount of Rs 113,000 was granted to the federation in the last year while the cheques of second and third installments were bounced and returned to the board.

Ju-jitsu is a form of ancient martial arts. It is a heritage passed on to us from the people of the gone times. It was first introduced in Pakistan in 1996 by Khalil Ahmed who now is the president of PJJF and the Asian Ju-Jitsu Federation (AJJF).
