HYDERABAD (Web Desk) – Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) officials on Saturday arrested another suspected terrorist who was involved in killing of 46 people in an attack on bus near Karachi’s Safoora Chowrangi, Dunya News reported.
The suspect was arrested from Pakistan s southern city of Hyderabad, 160 km north of Karachi. The CTD officials also conducted raids in other areas of Hyderabad and Nawabshah.
On May 13, eight gunmen attacked a bus traveling in Safoora Goth, killing at least 46 people. Most of the victims were members of the Ismaili community.
Syed Qaim Ali Shah, Chief Minister of Sindh province of which Karachi is the capital, said security officials believed the al-Qaida Indian sub-continent branch was behind the attack.
He confirmed four suspected terrorists have been arrested in connection with the attack.
INVESTIGATION UNDERWAY
Significant progress has been made in the investigation of Safoora Chowrangi incident as it has been revealed that the group of arrested terrorists comprises of 40 individuals.
According to investigating authorities, 13 suspects have escaped abroad however, there 23 companions are still present in Pakistan.
The group has killed more than 150 people including police officials.
Investigating authorities have also stated that the culprits made their first criminal attempt in Hyderabad Lateef and opened fire on the police.
They have also said that the father of arrested suspect Saad Aziz is the owner of a private hotel in Karachi whereas all the detained culprits got training at various times to conduct such terror activities.
