ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – The Federal Interior Ministry has given the permission to Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) to register cases against Axact for allegedly running a diploma factory as alleged by New York Times, Dunya News reported.

According to details, FIA had sought permission from the ministry to register cases against Axact in light of its investigation and evidences. The cases will be registered in Islamabad and Karachi.


FIA raids Axact offices again, seizes more records


The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) on Wednesday raided Axact’s Karachi and Rawalpindi offices once again and seized more documents and records. Axact’s CEO Shoaib Sheikh failed to appear at FIA and submitted a statement through his lawyer instead, Dunya News reported.

Meanwhile, the Federal Bureau of Revenue (FBR) has also summoned details of taxes and assets of the company.

According to details, the international racket of fake degrees is facing crackdown from the Pakistani authorities. The FIA has made fresh raids at its Karachi and Rawalpindi offices and questioned employees and checked their records.

FIA directed Axact’s CEO to appear at FIA office to record a statement, however, Axact management refused to comply at first, but then submitted a statement through an attorney in which Shaikh denied allegations.

Reportedly, the hardware and documents seized from Axact offices are being examined carefully. The sources said that FIA has also recovered certificates impersonating international documents and diplomatic documents of various embassies.

A team of forensic experts is reportedly working to decode 40 computers which can take three to four days. The sources said that the computer records will point to the accomplices and partners involved in this cam.

The FIA has also sought record from the hosting service provider of Axact websites being operated from Pakistan through which the record of buying and selling of online degrees will be obtained.

Reportedly, FIA had sealed Rawalpindi office of the company after forged verification letter of United States’ Secretary of State, forged certificates and seals were recovered. The FIA team made fresh raids today and examined the records again.

The 32 employees that were detained by the investigators yesterday were free to go home after they recorded their statements. Two of the employees are still in FIA’s custody who are yet to make statements.

Meanwhile, the FBR has also moved against the fake diploma racket and has ordered details of the company’s assets and tax records.
