Rangers, police arrest more than 200 suspects during raids in Karachi

KARACHI (Web Desk) – Rangers personnel have arrested 145 suspects including alleged target killers and terrorists during raids in Sohrab Goth, Gulshan Iqbal, Shah Faisal Colony, ORangi Town, Korangi, North Nazimabad and New Karachi today (Friday), Dunya News reported.

The raids were conducted on a tip-off regarding presence of criminal elements in these areas.

According to Rangers spokesperson, heavy weapons including SMG rifles were recovered from some of the suspects.



On the other hand, police arrested more than 70 suspects including four Afghan nationals who were living illegally in Pakistan.

Five suspected criminals were rounded up in Gulistan-e-Johar, four Afghan nationals were arrested in Pirabad area, 22 suspects were arrested in Esa Nagri. Another 5 men were arrested from New Karachi, Khamisu Goth and Khawaja Ajmer Nagri.

According to police, alleged target killer Alam Zaib alias Ganja is involve in 19 murder cases.



Law enforcement personnel have expedited action in the metropolis a day afterr a special apex committee meeting at Corps HQ decided to continue targeted operation with increased tempo. The meeting was held in the wake of terrorist attack on bus near Karachi`s Safoora Chowrangi on Wednesday which claimed lives of more than 45 people belonging to Ismaili community.

The apex committee directed the authorities to apprehend criminals and their abettors regardless of political,religious, ethnic, sectarian or any other affiliations.

Wednesday`s terrorist attack was the second deadliest in Pakistan this year after 62 people were killed in a suicide bombing in Sindh s Shikarpur district late January.

Karachi, a sprawling city of roughly 20 million, has long had a reputation for high crime rates as well as ethnic, political and sectarian violence but the violence has fallen significantly since 2013 after police and paramilitary rangers launched the crackdown.
