KARACHI (Web Desk / AP) -  Victims of Safoora Chowrangi massacre have been laid to rest at Al Noor graveyard in Sakhi Hassan area on Thursday, Dunya News reported.

Amid tight security, hundreds of people paid their respects at a mass funeral for 44 victims killed in a militant attack on a bus the previous day in the southern port city of Karachi.

The death toll in the tragic and barbaric act of terrorism has reached 46 after another two victims succumbed to their injuries. A victim identified as Nafeesa passed away at Aga Khan Hospital while another person died at Memon Hospital.

A national day of mourning is being observed across Pakistan today. On the occasion, the national flag has been lowered at half-mast on all the government buildings.

According to a statement from the Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif`s office appealed on all Pakistanis to "join hands against these barbaric terrorists." He said the whole nation "stands united to eliminate these enemies of Pakistan and enemies of humanity."

Activists from the Ismaili community demanded Thursday that those involved in the attack be quickly apprehended and executed.

"Catch them. Execute (them) the next day," said Piyar Ali, one of the activists at the mass funeral. He asked the government to "wipe-out" militants to ensure that no such attack takes place in the future.

Wednesday`s attack was the second deadliest in Pakistan this year after 62 people were killed in a suicide bombing in late January in Shikarpur District of Sindh.
