Summary The worsening of the crisis has been triggered by conflict between K-Electric and Water Board

KARACHI (Dunya News) – Water Board authorities on Wednesday said that the city faces shortage of 350 million gallons water per day whereas the suspension of electricity at pumping stations has triggered worsening of the crisis.

The water crisis in Karachi has worsened even before beginning of the summer. Reportedly, a major reason of the crisis is theft of the water while the conflict between Karachi Water and Sewerage Board and K-Electric over non-payment of dues has furthered the crisis.

The Water Board blamed the K-Electric, saying that the loadshedding at the pumping stations have caused the water crisis.

It further said that the need of water has increased with the rise in metropolitan’s population. The Water Board said that city needs at least 1000 million gallons water everyday whereas only 650 million gallon water is being supplied. The city, it said, still faces the shortage of 350 million gallons of water.
