LAHORE (Dunya News) – The Punjab government has decided to bring a women protection bill in the provincial assembly as per which women protection officers will be appointed in each district.
These women officers will immediately take action upon calls from affected women. Rescuing and providing shelter to affected women will also be responsibility of the government.
The bill also recommends attaching tracking devices with harassment offenders. Financial exploitation of women by lying about salary and income will also be made a crime.
A GPS location tracking device will be attached to those harassing women and will be restrained from going near places where women they harassed work and hangout.
The women officers will be required to get a court order for installation of such a device.
The new bill also proposes measures against financial exploitation of women. It recommends men give a sizeable amount of their income to wives.
If a man withholds information or lies about his income, he can face legal action. This bill will be presented in the assembly in mid-May.
