SCP upholds tribunal's verdict in PTI Ijaz Chaudhry's ineligibility case

LAHORE (Dunya News) – The Supreme Court of Pakistan (SCP) on Tuesday has upheld election tribunal’s verdict in Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Punjab president Ijaz Chaudhry’s ineligibility case. The court ordered holding of re-election in the constituency.

A three-member bench headed by Justice Anwar Zaheer Jamali held hearing of the case.

Chaudhry’s eligibility was challenged by Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) Mumtaz Ahmed Tarar. Chaudhry was elected from constituency NA-108 Mandi Bahauddin.

PTI member was accused of human smuggling, extortion and possessing a fake degree.

Earlier, the election tribunal declared Chaudhry ineligible upon which he had approached the SCP regarding the matter.
