ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) -- Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) on Wednesday has called for deployment of Rangers on day of by-elections in NA-246. Shah Mehmood Qureshi said that it is the duty of Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) to create an atmosphere conductive to holding elections, Dunya News reported.
A 3-member delegation of PTI under the leadership of Shah Mehmood Qureshi met members of Majlis Wahdatul Muslimeen (MWM).
Talking to media after the meeting, Shah Mehmood Qureshi said that NA-246 is a stronghold of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) and they have always won the elections from the area, wondering why MQM was exhibiting fear from the current by-election all of a sudden.
Replying to a question, Shah Mehmood Qureshi said that it is ECP’s responsibility to hold the elections in a fear-free atmosphere and to ensure the safety of candidates taking part in it.
Speaking on the occasion, leader MWM, Allama Nasir Abbas said that the two parties had discussed on the situation of Yemen and had reached the consensus that government should consult political and religious parties before taking any action on the matter and said that Pakistan’s role should be that of a mediator.
Allama Nasir Abbas said that the situation in Yemen is delicate and any conflict could spark into a full blown war.
MWM and PTI leaders also gave indication of jointly contesting the elections in Gilgit-Baltistan.
