Middle East situation: Pakistan decides to play decisive role

Summary Khawaja Asif, Sartaj Aziz, military officials to visit Saudi Arabia on Prime Minister’s directions

ISLAMABAD: (Dunya News) – Pakistan has decided to play a decisive role in the ongoing Middle East crisis and for the defence of Saudi Arabia’s integrity. A delegation comprising Defence Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif, Advisor to Prime Minister on Foreign Affairs Sartaj Aziz and military officials will visit Saudi Arabia on Tuesday in accordance with the directions given by Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif. Nawaz Sharif has said that Muslim heads of state will be contacted in this regard, Dunya News reported.

A meeting was held in Islamabad under the headship of PM Nawaz Sharif. The meeting was attended by Army Chief General Raheel Sharif, Air Chief Marshal Suhail Amaan, Finance Minister Ishaq Dar, Defence Minister Khawaja Asif, Foreign Affairs Advisor Sartaj Aziz and acting head of Navy Vice Admiral Khan Hashim.

Middle East situation was examined in detail during this meeting and the resolve to guard the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Saudi Arabia was reiterated. It was decided in the meeting that Pakistan will play a decisive role in the Middle East crisis keeping in view the aspirations of the people of Pakistan.

Prime Minister will contact the head of Islamic states in this regard. These contacts will be focused towards promoting peace and unity in the Middle East and an end to the strained relations between the Muslim countries.

The meeting also demanded the United Nations (UN), Organization of Islamic Countries (OIC) and the global community to play their role in diffusing the tensions.

According to Dunya News sources, PM Nawaz met Khawaja Asif in the presence of Sartaj Aziz and Ishaq Dar. The situation of the Middle East and Yemen, in particular, were discussed during the meeting.
