Summary PPP has endorsed Saudi Arabia-led offensive against Houthi rebels
ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – The opposition parties on Sunday urged the government to take the opposition parties and the parliament into confidence before taking any decision regarding Pakistan’s possible involvement in Yemen crisis, Dunya News reported.
The opposition urged the government to summon an all-parties conference if Pakistan is facing any pressure. The Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) has endorsed Saudi Arabia’s steps to take on the Houthi rebels in Yemen.
According to details, the Opposition Leader in National Assembly Khursheed Shah said that the country is in the state of war, adding that apolitical decisions in such phase will have consequences.
He asked Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif to take parliament into confidence before pledging any involvement.
Reading out former president Asif Ali Zardari’s statement, PPP leader Rehman Malik said that PPP does not support Houthi rebels in Yemen and endorses Saudi Arabia’s steps.
Jamaat Islami chief Sirajul Haq urged Turkey and Pakistan to mediate to reduce tensions between Iran and Saudi Arabia, adding that only United States and Israel will benefit from the war.
Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam (JUI-F) chief Fazlur Rehman said that sending troops in Yemen is not an easy matter, adding that any decision has to be taken with utmost care. He asked the government to summon an APC conference if it is being pressured into anything.
Deputy chairman Senate Maulana Abdul Ghafoor Haideri said that any decision about sending troops in Yemen will be taken after taking the nation into confidence.
