Summary Twitterati paid tribute to Asiya Andrabi who was arrested by Indian army for hoisting Pakistan flag

LAHORE: (Web Desk) – Asiya Andrabi, a Kashmiri separatist figure and founder of Dukhtaraan-e-Millat organization in Kashmir, has been arrested by the Indian authorities for allegedly hoisting Pakistani flag on 23rd March, Pakistan Day. This is not the first time India has proved itself not a real democracy. India has been denying the right of self-determination to the Kashmiris for the last seven decades almost now and has used all sorts of coercive actions against the Kashmiris who have demanded their right of self-determination under the UN resolutions on Kashmir of which India is also a signatory.

In fact this is not the first time for Asiya either. She was arrested in 2010 as well and at that time the Indian authorities had claimed that she had been inciting people to violence in Kashmir. Her husband Dr Ashiq Hussain Faktoo has been imprisoned since 1992 and the family is quite accustomed to ‘Indian brand of democracy’.

In a tribute to her brave act, Pakistani twitterati gave Asiya Andrabi a rich tribute on Friday and the Hashtag saying #PakistanSalutesAsiya trended on the micro-blogging website Twitter for several hours. From saluting her bravery to reminding the Indians of their so-called democratic ideals, Pakistani tweeps did everything that would shame the Indian authorities.

India authorities were shamed for trying to silence a voice of dissent in the Indian Held Kashmir.

Some said that she deserved all the applause in the world for showing the true face of India on Pakistan Day.

Indian government has been trying to suppress the Kashmiri voice for decades but the Kashmiris have refused to budge.

Pakistanis saluted Kashmiris for not letting the Indians silence their voices.

And this is not the first time the Pakistan flag has been hoisted in India. This has been a norm in Kashmir. Pakistan flag will continue to be hoisted till the last Kashmiri breathes in and out.

Quaid-e-Azam Muhammad Ali Jinnah had said, "Kashmir is Pakistan". This holds true even after 67 years of Indian suppression and every attempt to kill the Kashmiris  will to govern their land according to their wishes.

Some said that the true face of "Indian democratic ideals" has been exposed by Andrabi s arrest.

But the best part was Asiya s response to the allegations hurled at her. She simply refused to accept Kashmir as a part of India.

In the Hollywood movie The Great Debaters (2007), the colored debaters are shown leading their resistence against the oppression of the whites in the United States of America and asking for the right to have education in the same colleges as the whites. The movie is made in the backdrop of 1935 when India was also going through its independence struggle. The Blacks of America are shown quoting Mohandas Karam Chand Gandhi s words as reference. One of the debaters says, "An unjust law is no law at all. So how do I confront that? With violence or with Civil Disobedience? You should pray that I choose the latter".

It is sad that the Indians have to get reminded time and again of the ideology of their own spiritual leader. Kashmir s occupation is unjust. So, it is an unjust law. Gandhi believed Indian occupation by the Britain as unjust too. So he used Civil Disobedience as a tool, instead of using violence. But when Asiya did the same, she was arrested by the Indian authorities. What is the difference between the Indian authorities of today and the British authorities of pre-independence India?
