Blast claims lives of two police personnel, injures 14 in Karachi

KARACHI (Dunya News) – As many as two police personnel on Friday have embraced martyrdom while 14 injured including two civilians in a bomb blast near Special Security Unit (SSU) bus in Shah Latif area.

According to the initial report, the bomb was placed in a motorbike which was blown using a remote control device. The bus was enroute to the Bilawal House to shift the policemen there for duty. The motorbike was parked under the Murghi Khana Bridge which went off as soon as the bus reached the site.

The rescue teams reached the blast site and shifted the injured to the government-run Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre (JPMC). According to Dr Seemi Jamali, accident ward’s incharge, bodies of the martyrs were not brought to the hospital. Only the injured personnel were brought to the hospital for treatment. The injured include Ameed Ali, Saleem, Ismail, Sagheer Ahmed, Ataullah, Asif Ali, Sabir Ali, Saain Bakhsh, Ali Nihal, Tayyab and Asif. While two personnel, Amir Mehboob and Altaf were transferred to a private hospital.

Contingents of the Pakistan Rangers and Sindh Police have reached the blast site. Bomb Disposal Squad (BDS) was also called to the site. The law enforcement agencies have started to collect evidences from the attack site.

Banned outfit Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) has claimed responsibility for the attack in an email sent to the media

According to the police, the bomb was blown using a remote control device. The motorbike used for the attack bears registration and chassis number DSC 421991 and DSC 22724573 respectively. The security forces have started tracing the owner of the vehicle.

Earlier, an attack was conducted near the Razaqabad Police Training Centre which claimed lives of several police personnel.
