ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) – Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has challenged the decision regarding holding of local bodies elections in cantonment areas on non-party basis in the Supreme Court of Pakistan today (Wednesday), Dunya News reported.
Former prime minister Raja Pervaiz Ashraf filed the petition in the apex court.
The PPP, in its plea, has stated that it is necessary for all the political parties to take part in the electoral process as all parties are eligible to contest federal, provincial and local government elections.
There are no no-go areas in cantt, the PPP said.
The party said it is against the spirit of basic rights and election laws to keep political parties away from the local bodies elections in cantonment areas.
The petitioner requested the court to declare the section 61 of Cantonment Ordinance 2002 unconstitutional as it conflicts with the Constitution of Pakistan.
Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) has urged the court to issue an order to conduct LB elections in cantonment areas on party basis.
