Summary Mirza's statement surfaced after 25 years of conviction, rejected as it has no legal value, says MQM
KARACHI: (Dunya News) – Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) Rabita Committee has on Thursday rejected the statement made by Saulat Mirza. Rabita Committee maintained that the statement surfaced after 25 years of conviction and was rejected as it had no legal value, reported Dunya News.
In a press conference on Thursday in Karachi, Barrister Farogh Naseem said that mockery was being made out of the law of the land by these baseless allegations. He said that the Rabita Committee condemned and rejected the statement by Saulat Mirza. He said that Saulat Mirza’s case was conducted in an anti-terror court where he had confessed without any pressure.
“How can someone edit his statement after it became part of the court record? On whose wish such videos were being recorded?” questioned Farogh. He said that the governor did not have the authority to protect a convict or suspect. He said that the statement issued by Saulat Mirza was rejected by MQM chief Altaf Hussain, MQM leader Babar Khan Ghauri and Governor Sindh Dr. Ishratul Ibad Khan.
“Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan is a good person. We request him to look into this matter”, he said.
Addressing the press conference, MQM Senator Barrister Saif said that MQM was victim of baseless propaganda. “Things should be looked at in their context”, he said. “Convicts are offered life for such statements. Saulat Mirza’s body language says that he was forced to make this statement”, added Barrister Saif. He said that MQM was being disgraced through this statement. He said that motive behind Saulat Mirza’s statement was malicious.
Barriseter Saif said that MQM had the legal right to respond to such baseless allegations.
According to Dunya News sources, MQM has decided to move to United Nations (UN) and International Court of Justice (ICJ) against the statements. The party is also considering writing a letter to UN Secretary General in this regard, claim sources.
