LAHORE (Dunya News) – The Punjab government has failed to implement de-escalation of cooking oil prices in the province after its announcement earlier. In several areas of Rawalpindi, hoarding has caused oil shortage. Former law minister Rana Sanaullah has been given the task to negotiate with the oil mills  owners.

The government failed to lower prices of cooking oil in the province. The hoarders in the whole sale market have cut off the supply of vegetable oil leading to its scarcity in Gawalmandi, Dhoke Hassu, Bani and downtown areas of Rawalpindi.

In whole sale, a 5Kg oil tin is being sold at at least Rs 570 whereas in retail at Rs 210.

The shortage of cooking oil in the province has been challeneged in the Lahore High Court (LHC). The petition states that the government had announced to cut the oil prices but has failed to do so. Moreover, the petition urges the LHC to order the government to implement the lowered prices immediately.

The people have urged the government to implement the revised prices in accordance with the announcement made earlier. They said that the hoarders and illicit profiteers have staged a shortage of cooking oil due to de-escalated prices.

Earlier, the provincial government announced a price-cut of at least Rs 15/litre in the cooking oil prices after the palm oil prices lowered in the International Market.
