Summary In Multan, customers are struggling to find ghee and oil at an economic price

Ghee and oil are fast disappearing off the shelves in Punjab as government’s decision to cut back the price of ghee by record 15 rupees per kilo has triggered a hoarding trend in the province.

In Multan, customers are struggling to find ghee and oil at an economic price. The factory owners, it is learned, have limited the production in their factories causing the apparent shortage.

According to district management, teams have been dispatched in the city of Multan to overcome the shortage problem. These teams will initiate legal action including fines to shopkeepers who indulge in unfair practices.

Owners of ghee producing factories have not accepted the decision to decrease the price wholeheartedly and their stance has manifested itself in shortage of ghee at whole sale markets.

According to sources, if government does not take factory owners in confidence, the market might face shortage of ghee in a similar fashion as petrol did a while ago.
