NEW DELHI (Web Desk) - India on Friday summoned Pakistani envoy Abdul Basit to lodge protest against the Islamabad High Court s release order of Mumbai terror attacks alleged mastermind Zaki-ur Rehman Lakhvi from a prison, the Indian media reported.

The matter has been "raised at high levels" in Pakistan, an Indian official said.

The latest ruling means Lakhvi could be released, though the government can still appeal to the Supreme Court and for now he remains in jail.

Throughout the three-month back and forth over Lakhvi s detention, he has never been let out of Adiyala Prison in Rawalpindi.

India on Friday reacted with displeasure to the Pakistani court s decision.

"They must ensure that Lakhvi doesn t get out on bail and doesn t get out of jail. If proper legal measures are taken then I am sure Lakhvi will not get out of jail," Junior Home Minister Kiren Rijiju told reporters.

55-year-old Lakhvi has been accused of masterminding, along with six others, the Mumbai attacks in 2008, when 10 terrorists entered India s financial capital through searoute and carried out the mayhem.

The trial has been underway since 2009. He has been detained at Adiala jail for the last five years or so.
