FAISALABAD (Dunya News) – Two death row convicts were hanged in Faisalabad Central Jail today (Friday), Dunya News reported.
According to details, Muhammad Akhtar and Sajid were executed after Fajar prayer.
Muhammad Akhtar was executed for murder of a person named Manzoor and rape of a woman in 1999 whereas Sajid killed a woman in 2000.
Both the convicts were sentenced to death by the Anti Terrorism Court (ATC).
Later the dead bodies of the criminals were handed over to their families.
Pakistan government recently lifted its moratorium on the death penalty in all capital cases, after initially restarting executions for terrorism offences in the wake of the Taliban Army Public school massacre.
The latest hangings bring to 27 the total number of executions following the resumption of executions in December after Taliban militants gunned down more than 150 people, most of them children, at Peshawar s Army Public School.
The United Nations, the European Union, Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch have called on Pakistan to re-impose its moratorium on the death penalty.
