Summary Hussain was convicted for kidnapping and killing a 7-year-old boy when he was a teenager
KARACHI (Dunya News) – An anti-terrorism court in Karachi on Thursday issued fresh black warrant for Shafqat Hussain – juvenile at the time of sentencing – and is to be executed on March 19, Dunya News reported.
Hussain was convicted for kidnapping and killing a 7-year-old boy when he was a teenager.
According to the details, the fresh black warrant was issued on motion by Central Jail Karachi officials and was granted by anti-terrorism court’s judge Saleem Raza Baloch.
Shafqat Hussain’s death warrant was issued earlier as well and he was scheduled to be executed on January 5; however, Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar had halted the execution due to the growing concern about Shafqat being a juvenile at the time of crime and sentencing. Nisar had ordered further investigation.
Hussain’s case has come to limelight ever since the government lifted moratorium on execution of death penalty. It has been highlighted by multiple local and foreign human rights organizations urging for immediate halt to the execution.
