Summary The Senate session began in Islamabad on Thursday morning with Senator Ishaq Dar in the chair.

ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) - Newly-elected senators have taken oath as members of the Upper House on Thursday. The oath was administered by Finance Minister Ishaq Dar.

Ishaq Dar was nominated by the President as the presiding officer.

Later today, the newly-elected members will elect deputy chairman of the Upper House.

PPP leader Mian Raza Rabbani has already been elected unopposed as Chairman Senate while four candidates from JUI-F, PTI, BNP (Mengal) and MQM are contesting election for Senate deputy chairman’s post.

Talking to media, the newly-elected Senators have vowed to work together for strengthening parliamentary and democratic norms in the country.

They said Pakistan is faced with multiple challenges and government and the opposition will have to work with cohesion to steer the country out of all challenges.

They said being Senators they will try to bring legislation for welfare of the people.
