KARACHI (Dunya News) –Director General Rangers Major General Bilal Akbar denied killing of Muttahida Qaumi Movement’s (MQM’s) worker Waqas Shahand stated that he was not gunned down by Rangers, Dunya News reported on Wednesday.
While talking to Dunya News, DG Rangers said that the operation was conducted to eliminate criminal element from the metropolis instead of targeting MQM.
He further clarified that no raid was carried out at the house of Altaf Hussain’s sister Saira Aslam.
‘Citizens should call on Rangers’ helpline if they get any threat’, he added.
Major Bilal also met Chief Minister of Sindh (CM) and informed him about the Rangers’ operation at Nine-Zero headquarters.
Earlier, a heavy contingent of Rangers personnel have arrested several suspects during raid on Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) chief Altaf Hussain`s residence and Khursheed Begum Secretariat in Azizabad area of the metropolis.
The raid was conducted on a tip-off regarding presence of suspected criminals at 5:00am (PST) on Wednesday.
According to Rangers Spokesperson Col. Tahir, several suspects including Faisal Mota, Farhan Shabir alias Mulla, Amir Khan, Nadir and Obaid K2 have been arrested.
Rangers authorities have claimed that Faisal Mota was convicted by an anti-terrorism court in journalist Wali Babar`s killing while MQM leader Amir Khan has been taken into custody for interrogation.
The Rangers spokesperson further revealed that different kinds of local and imported weapons including Kalashnikovs, shotguns, 9mm pistols, hundreds of bullets and bullet-proof vests were seized during the raid. They believe that some of the weapons might have been stolen from NATO containers.
