Summary MQM chief Altaf Hussain issued a statement from London on Tuesday.

LONDON (Web Desk) – Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) chairman Altaf Hussain on Tuesday stated that his party can abstain from Senate elections if the Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) and Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) do not ensure 100% implementation of their demands, Dunya News reported.

In a statement issued from London, the MQM chief gave these directives to the members of coordination committees, especially members of a committee formed for Senate elections.

Altaf Hussain said: “I allow the coordination committee and dialogue committee that they can abstain from Senate polls if PMLN and PPP do not accept 100% demands of the MQM.”

Two top political parties including Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) and the ruling Pakistan Muslim League Nawaz (PML-N) have started lobbying for the Senate chairman post and both parties are in the process of winning over the most allies for their support.

PPP is top party in the Senate with 27 seats while the PML-N has 26 senators. The Senate at the moment comprises 100 members.

Polls for four seats in the Federally Administered Tribal Area (FATA) were postponed due to legal and constitutional complications and new date for election will be announced later.
