Summary India has been continuously violating UN resolution on Kashmir, the FO spokesperson said.
ISLAMABAD (Web Desk) – The Foreign Office on Thursday said that Pakistan supports reforms in the United Nations to make it a more vibrant body but it could not support permanent membership for India in the Security Council.
“Pakistan is not opposed to reforms in the UNSC. Reforms doesn t mean and accepting members like India,” FO spokesperson Tansim told reporters during weekly press briefing in Islamabad.
She said that India has been continuously violating UN resolution on Kashmir.
"How a country that has been violating UN resolutions could become permanent member of the UN Security Council," she added.
The spokesperson further stated that India has also increased its defence budget by 12 percent. The defence and nuclear deals between India and the United States would disturb balance of power in the region.
On Tuesday, US President Barack Obama stated that he supports India`s candidature for a permanent seat in the United Nations Security Council.
"I believe if we are going to be true global partners, our two nations must do more around the world together. So, to ensure national security and peace, multilateral institutions created in the 20th century have to updated for the 21st. That s why I support a reformed United Nation Security Council that includes India as a permanent member," President Obama said, while addressing a gathering at the Siri Fort auditorium in New Delhi.
