Interior standing committee approves Motor Vehicle Bill 2012 Amendment

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – The Interior standing committee on Wednesday has approved the Motor Vehicle Amendment Bill 2012 and the Bill regarding honour killing. According to the Amendment Bill, the person responsible for the accident will give the successor of the killed at least Rs 2 lac.

The meeting of the standing committee was chaired by Senator Talha Mehmood. The members expressed anger over the absence of Interior Minister and the Interior Secretary. Senator Tahir Mashhadi urged the ministers to follow a democratic path. He said that being absent from the meetings is against the directives of the Prime Minister (PM) and the rules.

Senator Sughra Imam presented the Bill to limit honour killing in the meeting and said that this act should be declared a non-bail able punishment. The members suggested that cases of honour killings be registered on behalf of government. The meeting deliberated over the kidnapping of at least two women from Balochistan in 2013 who belonged to Kazakhistan. The meeting expressed anger over the lack of participation of the authorities concerned in the matter including the Chaghi Deputy Commissioner. The committee has ordered Balochistan Chief Secretary and Home Secretary to appear in the next meeting.

On the occasion, Senator Farhatullah Babar presented the Bill regarding the murder and rape in custody and demanded formation of anti-torture law in the country. He said that the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) members have this law.
