Summary A woman judge has to be 40-year-old and maintain 'Islamic veil', the council recommended

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – The Council for Islamic Ideology on Wednesday ruled that a man divorcing his wife thrice at one time is non-Islamic, adding that this should be made an offense punishable by law, Dunya News reported.

The council’s chairman Maulana Sherani said that a man can pronounce one divorce at a time as per the method prescribed by the Shariah. According to the Islamic family law, a man has to divorce the spouse three times before the divorce legally comes into effect.

Sherani further recommended formation of rules and regulations to eliminate sectarianism after thorough investigation of the issue.

The CII also rejected the Bill to physically punish children.

Ruling on women’s eligibility to be a judge, Maulana Sherani said that a woman has to be at least 40-year-old to become a judge and that too if she maintains full ‘Islamic veil’.
