Summary A large ratio of petrol requirement of central Punjab is fulfilled by the PARCO situated near Multan
LAHORE (Dunya News) – The Pak Arab Refinery Limited (PARCO) has been reported to be the main cause of the countrywide petrol crisis as the company remained closed for at least five days at the start of January.
According to the sources, the present petrol shortage is due to the shutdown of PARCO. The shutdown reportedly intensified the petrol crisis in Lahore and surrounding areas. Another reason of the crisis is lack of 20-day stock of the marketing companies due to the reduction in petroleum products’ prices.
PARCO fulfills the petrol requirements of at least 35 percent customers of the country. A large ratio of petrol requirement of central Punjab is fulfilled by the PARCO situated near Multan. Two big refineries fulfill the requirements of Karachi and Sindh along with different other parts of country.
On the other hand, the demand of Balochistan is met by the smuggled petrol from Iran along with the support of a refinery. Whereas the demand of upper Punjab is largely met by Attock Refinery as it supplies to Rawalpindi and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP).
