ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Supreme Court of Pakistan (SC) on Monday suspended the schedule of by-elections in Punjab Assembly’s constituency PP-240 which was due on January 7, Dunya News reported.

As per details, SC heard the case on the appeal of disqualified Member of Provincial Assembly (MPA) Shamoona Badshah Qaisarani.

Petitioner s lawyer Rafiq Rajwana told the court that election tribunal has dismissed the election petition against Shamoona Badshah Qaisarani as the decision of disqualification was issued over the miscellaneous petition of hiding the assets.

‘According to the Election Article 225, no one can challenge the decision without an election petition’, he argued.

On the plea of MPA Shamoona, the apex court suspended the by-elections in PP-240 and adjourned the hearing for indefinite time.

Earlier, Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) withdrew the notification declaring success of Shamona Badshah Qaisrani, member of provincial assembly Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PMl-N) due to fake degree, Dunya News reported.

The ECP has declared the success of MPA Shamona as null and void by viewing the provided proofs and stated to announce schedule of bi- elections on the vacant seat as early as possible.
