593 booked, 297 arrested across Punjab for loudspeaker misuse

Summary IG Punjab vowed the crackdown will continue until elimination of such elements

LAHORE (Daily Dunya) – As many as 593 cases have been registered and 297 persons have been arrested across Punjab for using loudspeaker to incite violence. Inspector General (IG) Punjab Mushtaq Sukhera said that strict action will be taken against extremists, those inciting violence and accessories to terrorists across Punjab.

He said the police have begun the crackdown and that it will continue until elimination of such elements in the province.

Similarly, 16 cases have been registered for inciting people to violence through speeches on loudspeakers where 130 have been arrested.

Another 25 people have been arrested over hateful wall chalking and cases have been registered against several others.

Through raids, the police have also seized heavy amount of hate-speech material including books, pamphlets, banners, newspapers, memory cards, DVDs, USBs, booklets and computers.

Moreover, the Mughalpura police also took speaker of Jamia Masjid Hanafia Shamsia into custody over abuse of loudspeaker.
