ISLAMABAD (Dunya TV)—Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-F (JUI-F) chief Fazlur Rehman talking to media in Islamabad condemned the 21st Constitutional Amendment and the Pakistan Army (Amendment) Bill, which was passed unanimously through Parliament on Tuesday. Members of religious parties including Jamaat-e-Islami (JI) and Jamiat Ulema-e-Islam-F (JUI-F) abstained from voting.
Fazlur Rehman expressed serious reservations over the proposed bill saying that it is the biggest mistake in the history of Pakistan. The public should be made aware of the drawbacks of the bill, he said.
Fazl claimed that the law is discriminatory since it links terrorism to religion. If religious institutions are going to be targeted under the recently passed bill it will create further problems by overlooking the real menace of terrorism.
He announced that all the leaders have also agreed to hold a seminar regarding the constitutional bill on 21st January in which political leaders discuss to pave way for it. He said that the amendment has been passed to protect the terrorists by allowing them to get away without being charged for terror activities.
To a question he said Jamaat-e-Islami leaders have also expressed apprehension over legislation saying that it could be used to target religious institutions. Answering another question, he said that the protest against the legislation could as well be taken to D-Chowk.
While answering a question, Rehman said that Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan is an elderly person, he does not know how shall he comment on his second marriage.
