Constitutional amendment: PM directs Interior Minister to address religious parties' concerns

Summary Concerns of religious parties should be addressed at earliest, the PM ordered.

ISLAMABAD (Dunya News) – Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif on Thursday directed Interior Minister Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan to address concerns of the religious parties regaring the 21st Constitutional Amendment, sources told.

With the unanimous vote of all lawmakers present in the National Assembly and the Senate, the 21st Constitutional Amendment bill secured a two-thirds majority it required, however, lawmakers from religious parties and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) stayed away.

PM Nawaz stated that all religious parties had agreed upon National Action Plan against Terrorism. They will be taken on board on every matter.

He said entire nation and political leadership are on the same page against terrorism, thus, concerns of the religious parties should be addressed at earliest.

Federal Information Minister Pervez Rashid said that Jamaat-e-Islami and JUI did not cast their vote against constitutional amendment. Their intentions cannot be doubted as leaders of religious parties participated in the All Parties Conference.

The Minister further said that process of execution of terrorists is in the best interest of the country and vital for elimination of terrorism.
